SUMMARY:Justin Roberts
DESCRIPTION:Four-time GRAMMY Nominee Justin Roberts is one of the founders of the modern family music scene. For 25 years\, Roberts has been creating the soundtrack to families’ lives\, helping kids navigate the joys and sorrows of growing up\, while inspiring parents to remember their own childhoods. His songs are the kind of get-stuck-in-your-head pop nuggets that draw comparisons to Elvis Costello\, Fountains of Wayne\, and Paul Simon rather than simple nursery rhymes\, prompting USA Today to call him “hands-down the best songwriter in the genre.” \nAlong with his band\, The Not Ready for Naptime Players\, Justin has traveled the globe\, from Hong Kong to New York\, and Miami to Seattle. His latest album\, Space Cadet\, is a return to his power pop all-ages sound. Heavily inspired by his life as a new dad\, the feel-good album offers themes of inclusion and acceptance that wind through emotionally intelligent songs. Roberts creates a welcoming space for children to celebrate their uniqueness and dance it all out.

SUMMARY:Gemily
DESCRIPTION:This event is free and streamed to The Ark’s Facebook page. \nGemini (twin brothers San and Laz Slomovits) have been Ark regulars\, appearing at the club at least once and usually several times every year since moving to Ann Arbor in 1973. Especially acclaimed for their shows for children and families\, they are now entertaining their third – or is it their fourth – generation of fans. They’ve played an annual family concert for Ark audiences on the Sunday after Thanksgiving every year since 1994 to benefit Mott Children’s Hospital\, where San’s daughter\, Emily was born. Emily will join the brothers for this show as she has every year since 2003 when she was just nine years old. The trio\, now redubbed Gemily\, (Gemini+Emily) combine wonderful singing and instrumental prowess on more than half a dozen instruments with lively\, sparkling original songs and traditional folk music from many countries and cultures. In addition to their exceptional musicianship\, the trio brings an easy stage presence to all their shows and draws their audiences into joyful music-making with them. \nThis year’s concert will again be online. \nTip jar will be available with donations going to support both C.S. Mott Childrens Hospital and Food Gatherers.
