DESCRIPTION:If you haven’t heard of the cheerfully named supergroup Mr. Sun\, you’ve certainly heard its proponents\, four of the finest musicians on the American Roots scene: Renowned fiddler Darol Anger\, Professor Emeritus at Berklee College of Music\, who has released dozens of influential solo albums over a 50-year career in addition to his work with David Grisman and Mike Marshall\, and founded the Turtle Island Quartet\, Psychograss\, and Republic of Strings; Joe K. Walsh\, mandolin virtuoso and vocalist who spent four years with the award-winning bluegrass act the Gibson Brothers before becoming a solo artist\, songwriter\, and Strings Department Professor at Berklee; all-around guitar genius Grant Gordy\, a former member of David Grisman’s band and respected solo artist and educator; and the phenomenal Scots bassist Aidan O’Donnell\, who has backed harpist Maeve Gilchrist and countless modern jazz heroes. Their appearances in the last few years at Wintergrass\, Rockygrass\, Grey Fox\, Freshgrass\, Redwing Roots\, and at IBMA conventions have created a reverberant clang throughout the Acoustic Americana music world. \nThis program is made possible with support from the Ford Motor Company Fund. They take the singer-songwriter tradition to a new level by crafting original songs which are emotive\, meticulously arranged\, and inspired by a world of idiosyncratic influences that never let a dull or predictable moment creep in. The band released its debut album\, “The Soil and the Seed\,” in 2018. Since then\, Buffalo Rose has dropped two EPs\, 2019’s “Big Stampede” and 2020’s “Borrowed and Blue\,” opened for the Wood Brothers\, Mipso\, Pokey LaFarge\, Tyler Childers\, and the Infamous Stringdusters\, and shared a festival stage with the legendary Sam Bush. The band’s upward trajectory continues into 2022 with its latest EP\, “Rabbit\,” created in collaboration with Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Tom Paxton\, followed by a new full-length LP\, “Again\, Again\, Again\,” released November 2022. The Wildwoods’ delicate melodies and descriptive lyrics come from nature\, love\, experiences from the road\, and growing up in Nebraska. \nThe band released their debut album\, Sweet Nostalgia\, followed by a duo EP\, Birdie & Goose\,  in 2017\, and quickly established themselves as a creative\, harmonious\, and instrumental force in their local music scene. Since then\, The Wildwoods have released another full-length record\, Across A Midwest Sky (2019)\, as well as a handful of singles\, Little Home (2020) and Like My Old Man (2021)\, and have supported touring acts such as Elephant Revival\, Arts Fishing Club\, The Accidentals\, The Way Down Wanderers\, and Jamie Wyatt. \nComprised of husband and wife team Noah (guitar) and Chloe Gose (violin)\, as well as Andrew Vaggalis (bass)\, The Wildwoods draw inspiration from a wide range of influences including the styles of: Watchhouse\, The Decemberists\, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings\, Peter\, Paul\, & Mary\, Nickel Creek\, Joni Mitchell\, and Gregory Alan Isakov. The program celebrates diversity in the art of story\, and includes true personal stories\, tall tales\, folk tales\, a story from literature\, and a couple of songs from the folk tradition. This program not only entertains\, it also gives a window into the reason that the oral tradition of storytelling is the most enduring adventure in human history. \nStorytellers include four members of the Ann Arbor Storytellers Guild – Steve Daut\, MC\, Lorelle Otis\, Jane Fink\, and Rich Swanson. Theirs is a story of struggle\, hard knocks and triumph. Essentially unable to cope with modern life\, the members of this band are outcasts of society who survive by playing the lost music of the flatlands where they were raised. \nThe Corn Potatos have delighted audiences with their driving fiddle tunes and harmonious singing across the US\, Canada\, Europe\, Mexico\, and India. They are all multi-instrumentalists dedicated to continuing the music and dance traditions of the Central and Southern US. In addition to being champion fiddlers they play banjo\, guitar\, bass and mandolin and deftly handle many different antiquated styles including ballads\, “ho-downs\,” country “rags” and southern gospel\, specializing in twin fiddling and double banjo tunes. \n

Please review The Ark’s current COVID-related information before attending a show. \nCOVID-19 FAQ \nIt’s hard to believe\, because each show is fresh and new\, but the RFD Boys have been delighting Michigan audiences since 1969 with their fabulous musicianship and sly\, exquisitely timed between-song humor. They’re legends of Michigan bluegrass\, but they’re more than that too. With an appearance on the cover of Bluegrass Unlimited\, with songs recorded by the likes of the Country Gentlemen\, and with performances alongside bluegrass greats like Bill Monroe and Ralph Stanley\, the RFD Boys are a part of America’s bluegrass tradition. The RFD Boys one of southeastern Michigan’s most durable musical ensembles\, and their shows capture a deep slice of musical Ann Arbor. Their 50th-anniversary appearance at the Folk Festival was a special moment and introduced many listeners to Dan Roehrig\, who joined the band on guitar\, mandolin\, and bass in mid-2018.
